Dan’s Den: Socialize.

Why you should partake in social events at the gym? They are fun. You get to know people. You will actually end up working out harder and with more effort/intensity the next time you see the people from the social outing whether it’s because you’re more comfortable with the people around you or you are having some healthy/fun competition (you will get in better shape). You will a connection to something. A club, a group, a common effort, a special kinship that is built through verbal communication and tough physical tasks. The reality is walking into the gym, not knowing anyone’s name, saying nothing, keeping to yourself, not interacting, leaving right after the work out etc  might not work out for you in the long run at Streets. You will probably be and make other miserable and in all likelihood leave for some weird reason that you can’t explain. Restricting yourself from being connected to other humans being just isn’t sustainable for the things we’re trying to do here at Streets. Not being polite and interacting just doesn’t win you a championship. I am always trying to get the gym to win a championship, as a human being, as a community.

When you socialize away from the thing that you do the most often, in this case CrossFit, you are able to not be a CrossFit athlete but the adult human being you are, just a human being, that’s all, that’s what links and connects people. When you show up at certain gym events you’ll end up being more consistent for workouts because you have people you look forward to seeing that will draw you in on the days when you are attempting to make excuses for why you shouldn’t show up. You will expand your social horizons just a teeny tiny bit. You may find a common interest with someone else. You could learn about a cool recipe, restaurant or something else.  There are lots of reason. You can see your coaches when they are not coaching you and just be people together, hang. You can make fun of each other. Humility is a great thing. We have a couple events coming up. Try to make it out to one or all of them!

  • Tues, Oct 31st: Halloween WOD all day for all classes. Regular schedule. It’ll be scary.
  • Fri, Nov 10th we’re hosting the Streets Social. (7-10pm)
  • Sat, Nov 25th is the In-House Competition. (9am-12pm)
  • Sat, Dec 2nd you can stick around and watch your coaches hurt a little on the Assault Bike at 11am.
